PROTECTING YOUR TRADEMARK IN DJIBOUTI

What are the key steps to protecting your trademark in Djibouti?

Registering a trademark is essential to secure your commercial identity. Here's how it works in practice in Djibouti:

1️⃣ Filing
Start by submitting your application for registration to the Djibouti Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (ODPIC).

2️⃣ Research & Review
The Examiner reviews your application to ensure it meets legal requirements, including:

  • No prior conflicting rights
  • Distinctiveness, etc.

3️⃣ Registration
If the application is in order, the trademark is registered.

In the event of refusal, you (or your lawyer) shall be notified and given three months to amend or complete your application.

4️⃣ Publication
The ODPIC shall then publish the registration so that it can be enforceable against third parties.

💰 How much does it cost?

  • Availability search: DJF 45,000 (per class).

  • Filing: DJF 79,000 (1st class) + DJF 33,000 per additional class.
